How Often Should You Go To A Chiropractor

One of the most common questions I get is: “How often should I come in for an adjustment?” And, honestly? The answer isn’t the same for everyone. Chiropractic care isn’t just a one-and-done kind of thing—it’s all about what your body needs and what your goals are.
Whether you’re coming in for pain relief, preventative care, or just to keep things moving well, your visit schedule will look different. So let’s break it down!
The Three Phases of Chiropractic Care
I like to think of chiropractic care as a process: we catch up to the problem, then we keep up with it. Most issues I see don’t happen overnight—they build up over time due to stress, posture, repetitive motions, or injuries. That’s why consistency is key!
1. Relief Care (You’re in Pain & Need Help!)
🔹 Frequency: 2-3 times per week (varies based on severity) 🔹 Goal: Get rid of pain and restore function
If you’re dealing with discomfort, stiffness, or pain, the first goal is to catch up to the problem. Most pain comes from things that have been brewing for a while, so the first few visits are about getting things moving, calming down inflammation, and healing properly.
2. Corrective & Restorative Care (Fixing the Root Cause)
🔹 Frequency: 1-2 times per week 🔹 Goal: Strengthen and stabilize your body
Once the pain is under control, the next step is correcting the underlying issue—improving posture, strengthening weak areas, and keeping things aligned. This prevents the pain from coming back and helps your body work better overall.
3. Wellness & Maintenance Care (Keeping Up, Not Catching Up!)
🔹 Frequency: 1-2 times per month (or as needed) 🔹 Goal: Stay ahead of problems and keep feeling great
This is where most of my long-term patients land. They feel great and want to stay that way! Just like you don’t wait for cavities before seeing a dentist, you shouldn’t wait for pain to see a chiropractor. Regular adjustments keep your spine, joints, and muscles moving properly, preventing future issues before they even start.
So… How Often Should You Go?
The real answer? It depends! Your body, lifestyle, and goals all play a role in how often you should get adjusted. I like to say “YOU are the only YOU that I have ever treated.” But here’s a simple way to think about it:
✅ In pain? Let’s start with more frequent visits to get you back on track. ✅ Feeling better? Gradually reduce visits while maintaining progress. ✅ Want to prevent issues? Stick with a monthly or bi-weekly schedule to keep everything moving well.
A Few Quick Tips to Make the Most of Your Adjustments
💡 Listen to your body – If you’re feeling stiff or achy, don’t wait too long to get checked out. 💡 Stay consistent – Healing and mobility take time. Skipping visits can slow your progress. 💡 Keep moving – Stretching, strengthening, and good posture will support your adjustments. 💡 Hydrate! – Your body needs water to help your tissues heal and function properly.
